Today I installed a video projection and the physical elements that I used to create my experimental short animated film, Tribute, at Y2Y Gallery here in the Inner Richmond district of San Francisco. I hung select strips of frames that I hand-made and painted to resemble 16mm film. Our month long show starts tomorrow ( thursday feb 17th) at 6:00pm located on 4th Avenue @ Balboa Street. So, please come check it out and have some fun.

We Are Trees x High/Low Film

Recently I have had the pleasure of working and becoming friends with Director Britton Caillouette and Producer Keenan Newman of High/Low Film. I was taken away by their body of work, because of it’s remarkable nostalgic qualities and attention to detail,which make them stand out among the rest of San Francisco’s film scene in my eyes. They ended up asking me to cut together a take away music performance they shot on top of a Brooklyn roof top during the 2010 CMJ music festival with a talented musical trio, We Are Trees. This is what we came up with, enjoy!

Color Correction & Image Tinting

As of late my girlfriend and I have been shooting tons of photos, so on my free time off from classes and editing projects I have been going through the hard drive finding photos that have potential to be an interesting image once properly color corrected. Whether Im working with video, film or digital photos I think that Its important to make the material look as good as it can possibly look. Here are a few images that I color graded in photoshop Today that Im pretty happy with and I included the original image raw from the camera so you all can see the difference a little love and photoshop time can do for the moments of our lifes. By enhancing pictures, video or film we are telling a story to the viewer about that moment in time and by setting the look and feel it may have more impact. Enjoy.

Progress

I have continued to trim the fat off the body of my film and I am left with strong segments of interview and a couple compelling scenes that bring you inside the workstations of Rock Ross, Craig Baldwin and John Carlson and Rick Prelinger. So forth I have stepped passed the assembly and I am on route to get to the end of a rough cut by mid december. I have also stumbled upon some really great tracks provided by audionetwork.com and will also be meeting up with Matt Englund tonight to begin hashing out ideas for the musical composition to the intro title sequence. I have a rough cut of the title sequence, an intro segment to the story and a narrated segment under my sleeve so to speak, Ill keep you all updated on the progress as I near the end of the road with the rough cut and soon a trailer so everyone can get a sneak peak before the film is finished on March 24th 2011. Stay tuned for updates, for now here are a couple photos of my project file in FCP.

The Begining

Today I had a meeting with local writer / social media coordinator Kirsten Incorvaia, who luckly happens to be my girlfriend. I asked her to help me take the hours of log notes from the interviews I captured with the subjects of my new film, Keeping It Reel. We sat down and she pulled out here green highlighter, I prefer it over the red one because of countless misspellings in my school papers over the years. She proceeded to pull out bits and pieces of story from each person’s interview much like Michelangelo would have done to a marble block to reveal the beautiful figure beneath the geometric mass. After pulling away the excess pieces of rhetoric we were left with a skeleton that linked all of the subjects together, a cohesive begining, middle and end.Now Im sitting in my editing dungeon that she refers to as my “man space” while I start to pick apart the elements from the outline I am realizing how much I love the film that my team is about to create and share with the rest of the world. Today I have began the ritual of editing and come March 24th 2011 there will be a finished film to project in front of the eyes of my friends, family and strangers. This is what I live for, this is what gives me the juice to keep going to the fridge, I’m in love with the process. Filmmaking!

Chris Troy!

Its not too often that Im impressed by skateboard videos or even the content of skateboarding in them, usually its just some cliche video part with some factory song and title where there isnt any soul to be found, But this one is acceptational and has a good look and feel. Chris Troy is a good friend of mine and I have had the pleasure of watching him grow up from a 14 year old kid wearing a pink and green cast with a squeeky voice in to one of skateboardings best contributing professionals with a deeper more manlike voice. He skates fast, likes tattoos and pushing the rules where applicable but not to forget how dedicated he is to his craft and how kind and forgiving he can be. It feels like yesterday when I was driving him around while I was filming the Kayo video and we were filming his first amature part for Black Label and now its cool to see him blooming in his second and most recent video part in Adio Footwear’s “Moving Forward”. Good stuff Chris, keep it moving!
